Chandigarh/Ludhiana, April 7 -- As Punjab gears up for a bumper wheat harvest, the State Government has pulled out all the stops to ensure a smooth and hassle-free procurement season. Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Sunday declared that no staff will be allowed leave during the procurement period - unless there's an exceptional reason.
"We're expecting more than 124 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat this year, and we're committed to buying every single grain that farmers bring," said Kataruchak after a review meeting with officials from five districts including Ludhiana and Moga. "Over eight lakh farmers will benefit from these arrangements, and we won't allow any lapses," he said.
