India, Sept. 18 -- It is indeed strange that a political party which ruled Tamil Nadu for more than a decade is now unable to handle its affairs on its own and seeks the help of a national party to set its house in order. AIADMK once had powerful leaders like MGR and Jayalalithaa who enjoyed emotional support of the masses.

Some leaders of the party, including Jayalalithaa while Chief Minister, were convicted of massive corruption, tarnishing its image and costing it power. Her demise left the party without a mass leader, paving the way for too many activists aspiring to capture leadership.
