India, Aug. 13 -- According to a recent World Bank report (WBR), India's urban population is expected to nearly double to 951 million by 2050, accounting for 40 per cent of India's population. The cities cover just Three per cent of the nation's land, but contribute 60 per cent to the GDP. By 2030, there will be 87 cities with populations exceeding one million, and cities are projected to generate 70 per cent of all new employment. This rapid shift, along with optimistic growth prospects, is expected to quadruple India's per capita income by 2030 compared to 2008.
