Chandigarh, July 2 -- Launching a fierce attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Punjab Government, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday accused it of forcefully acquiring over 40,000 acres of farmers' land across the State to benefit Delhi-based land developers. Calling it a "land grab scheme in the garb of land pooling", Sukhbir announced a statewide agitation beginning July 15 from Ludhiana to resist the move.

"This is not development. It's a Rs 10,000 crore land loot being executed by Delhi's AAP gang using Punjab's 1995 Town Planning Act instead of the Central Land Acquisition Act of 2013, which offers fair compensation and rehabilitation," Sukhbir alleged.
