Chandigarh, Sept. 17 -- Registering the 2000-plus cases of the novel coronavirus for the eight successive day, Punjab on Wednesday hit another unfortunate milestone of steepest hike of 2,717 fresh cases in a single day, pushing the state's COVID-19 tally to 87,184. Besides, 78 more lives were snuffed due to the deadly contagion in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 2,592 in the state.

The state had registred the highest number of cases earlier on September 13 with 2628 fresh infections. Punjab had reported 2000-plus cases for the first time on September 7 with 2110 cases, followed by 2137 on September 9, 2464 on September 10, 2526 on September 11, 2441 on September 12, 2496 on September 14, 2481 on September 15, and 2717 on Septem...
