Lucknow, March 1 -- In response to the BJP government's claims that the Maha Kumbh has generated income worth lakhs of crores of rupees, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said this income must be spent to compensate the families of devotees who lost their lives in accidents and for the treatment of those who were injured.
In a statement on Friday, Akhilesh said the tradition has been that whatever was earned from Kumbh was donated to charity. "The BJP government must follow suit and spend the income from Kumbh on ex gratia to the families of Kumbh pilgrims who died or were left injured in accidents.
