India, Sept. 6 -- Complete lack of awareness in registration of marriages not just birth and death, has led to a startling revelation in the Sample Registration System (SRS) report for 2023 which has reflected only 50.5 percent of the total population had never been married, with a higher percentage among men (55.4 percent) than women (45.3 percent) in 2023. Surprisingly, Bihar, and Jammu and Kashmir have the highest percentage of the never married population at 58.3 per cent and 57.5 per cent, respectively. Whereas, Tamil Nadu has the lowest percentage (41.3 percent) never married population.
