KOLKATA, March 3 -- An eerie calm prevailed inside the Jadavpur University (JU) campus a day after Left students' unions including the Students' Federation of India held violent protests inside the campus and allegedly heckled Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu - demanding early elections to students' bodies throughout the State.

Students' union elections have not been held in the State for the past seven-eight years.

As a group of Left students held protest rallies inside the campus and outside the Jadavpur Police Station local Trinamool Congress workers too organised rallies demanding immediate arrest of the students who were involved in heckling the Minister and some university professors who had assembled to take part in a meeting ...
