Kolkata, Sept. 5 -- Senior Bengal Congress leader and All India Congress Committee member Om Prakash Mishra on Wednesday joined the Trinamool Congress following differences with the party over its future system of alliances.

Mishra, a veteran Congress man, who used to profess a strong pro-Left line inside the Congress on Wednesday met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and offered to join the TMC.

About the reasons of his quitting the Congress the senior professor in the Jadavpur University said "I have joined the TMC as I feel that only this party under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee can fight the BJP and the RSS in West Bengal," Mishra said.
