Bhopal, Feb. 18 -- The disposal of hazardous waste from the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy has come under the scrutiny of the Supreme Court following a petition highlighting potential health risks to residents of Pithampur, where the waste has been relocated. The petition also raised concerns about the impact on Indore.
A bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and Augustine George Masih on Monday agreed to hear the plea challenging the Madhya Pradesh High Court's orders that led to the transfer of the toxic waste. The apex court has sought responses from the Central Government, the Madhya Pradesh Government, and the state's Pollution Control Board regarding the matter.
