PURI, Oct. 24 -- A Supreme Court Bench on Tuesday has observed that both Sanskar and Suraksha (reforms and safety) are needed for the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Supporting the Dhadi Darshan (visiting on a row) system for pilgrims already in execution in the temple by the administration, the bench made it compulsory in the shrine for darshan of the holy deities.

Going against a system of donations to individuals in the temple, the bench said that it is wrong and must be made in most transparent manner.

With some other observations, the bench also cleared that there should be no interference into rites and rituals of the temple and said the reforms are also necessary to be made in the recruitment process for servitors.
