India, July 4 -- Emerging from the sea, they clamber up the beach for a brief period, dig nesting holes in the sand, lay eggs en masse and then vanish into the oceans as mysteriously and suddenly as they had first appeared. Some 45 to 60 days later, the hatchlings emerge and make their way uncannily towards the sea, hazarding predators and poachers.
