Bhopal, June 11 -- A 58-year-old Bhopal gas tragedy survivor unknowingly carried a kidney tumour ten times the normal size for a year before successful surgery at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC).
The tumour, measuring 22x18 cm, had caused the patient's stomach to swell, though symptoms were minimal until blood appeared in his urine last month.
Doctors at BMHRC found the tumour had attached itself to critical blood vessels including the aorta, making surgery extremely risky. Despite the complexity, surgeons led by Dr Sonveer Gautam successfully removed the mass.
The patient, a chronic smoker for over 15 years, is now recovering well and expected to be discharged soon. The cancer had also spread to abdominal lymph node...
