RAIPUR, March 8 -- Thousands of people in Chhattisgarh's capital on Sunday took part in a 3-km walk from Marine Drive (Telibandha Pond) to Ghadi Chowk to promote zero tolerance of crime against women.

The event was conducted by Raipur Police to mark the International Women's Day, City Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma said.

An estimated 7,000 people joined the show of strength wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing to keep Covid-19 at bay. Everyone took an oath on the issue of crime against women, the officer said.

The aim behind the event was to connect more women with the police so that they share their problems or talk about crime against them, Sharma added.
