Bengaluru, Aug. 23 -- Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has thrown his weight behind Karnataka's bike-taxi riders, insisting that the Government cannot abandon six lakh gig workers whose livelihoods have been derailed by the State's ban on app-based services.

Meeting representatives of the Karnataka Bike Taxi Welfare Association, Rahul Gandhi said he had already spoken with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, urging them to come up with a framework that protects jobs instead of prolonging uncertainty. "Work is dignity. Six lakh families cannot be pushed into crisis because rules are missing," he told the delegation.
