Chandigarh, Feb. 17 -- Bathing in the golden rays of the sun, Punjab is turning its rooftops into powerhouses of clean energy. In a bold step towards sustainability, the state has installed rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on 4,474 government buildings, harnessing the limitless energy of the sun to generate over 4.9 crore units of electricity annually. This ambitious move not only reduces Punjab's dependence on conventional power sources but also paves the way for a greener, more energy-efficient future. Looking ahead, the Punjab Government has set a target to add another 20 MW of solar power by expanding rooftop installations on government buildings in the financial year 2025-26.
