Chandigarh, April 17 -- In a pro-labour decision aimed at supportingmandiworkers involved in the procurement process, the Punjab Government on Wednesday announced a substantial hike in the commission forpalledaars- the labourers who handle grain sacks in the state's procurement centres. The revised rate, now set at Rs 2.64 per sack, reflected an increase of 43 paise, bringing the total increment to 84 paise within a year.

The state Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, sharing the development during a press conference at Anaj Bhawan, said that this move will directly benefit labourers to the tune of Rs 10 crore.
