Bhopal, May 6 -- Doctors in Bhopal joined colleagues across Madhya Pradesh as they wore black armbands on Monday to protest the appointment of Dr Aruna Kumar as Director of Medical Education (DME).

Junior doctors and medical teachers in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore, Gwalior, and other cities participated in the symbolic protest between 1 PM and 1:30 PM while continuing patient care. Memorandums addressed to the Chief Minister and Principal Secretary were submitted to deans.

The Medical Teachers Association (MTA) and the Junior Doctors Association (JDA) have called the appointment politically motivated. Dr Kumar's administrative track record has drawn criticism in the past as well.
