Bhopal, May 19 -- A protest by residents forced the closure of a second 'illegal' gate at an off-licence in the Bagmugaliya area of the state capital on Sunday afternoon.

The protest broke out outside Fortune Delight Society, where residents gathered in large numbers. They alleged that the liquor shop had recently opened a second gate in a busy back lane that residents use to access groceries and other daily necessities.

They described the opening of the gate as a security risk for women and children who use the lane throughout the day.

Protest leaders said the shop was only licensed for a gate facing the main road. One protester called the second gate "entirely illegal" and a security hazard.
