Mahestala, June 13 -- With communal narrative being increasingly used as a proxy for political activities in Bengal the police on Thursday arrested 41 people after clashes on Wednesday erupted between members of two communities at Mahestala in the southern fringes of Kolkata.
This even as tension prevailed around Maheshtala as shops and other business remained closed through the Thursday with a large contingent of police deployed in the vicinity.
"We have four police pickets and in the area in addition to continuous rounds of patrolling," a senior police official said adding prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS (Section 144 CrPC) had been issued.
