Bhopal, April 18 -- With summer demand soaring, the Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company (MKVVCL) is strategising a crackdown on nearly 60,000 defaulters in Bhopal as it attempts to recover Rs 300 crore in dues.
The company has begun disconnecting electricity connections of those who fail to clear their pending bills. Officials said over 1,900 city consumers owe more than Rs 1 lakh each, while nearly 56,000 have dues between Rs 10,000 and Rs 1 lakh.
In a major shift, the power company is also considering adding political and administrative offices to the list. If that happens, total dues could rise from Rs 300 crore to over Rs 450 crore, officials said.
