India, Sept. 7 -- After carrying out the special intensive revision of voters' list in poll-bound Bihar, the Election Commission (EC) is planning to roll out this exercise across the country. The poll body has called a conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) in Delhi on September 10 to discuss the preparedness of pan-India to roll out the SIR with its State representatives.
There are indications that the exercise would commence later this year ahead of Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal in 2026. The primary aim of the intensive revision is to weed out foreignillegal migrants by checking their place of birth.
