Ranchi, April 12 -- Punjab National Bank (PNB) is celebrating its 131st anniversary. Keeping in mind the spirit of Swadeshi in India, Punjab National Bank was established on May 19, 1894 by freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai along with some other freedom fighters in Lahore of undivided India with the objective of creating a Swadeshi bank for Indians. Its first branch started operating on April 12, 1895 and the founder of this bank, Lala Lajpat Rai, became its first customer.
