Lucknow, June 19 -- The Congress is recalibrating its strategy in Uttar Pradesh, preparing for the possibility of contesting the 2027 Assembly elections alone-even as public statements by alliance partners suggest otherwise.
Shortly after Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav reiterated that the opposition INDIA bloc was intact, internal voices from both camps painted a different picture. A senior SP leader hinted to this reporter that the party might restrict the Congress to just 40 out of 403 seats or contest alone altogether. Almost in tandem, Congress's UP in-charge Avinash Pande took a more assertive tone: "Nobody should take us for granted. If the Congress does not get respect, we want to be prepared for all 403 seats."
