India, Sept. 5 -- In a significant decision to restore peace in Manipur, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) on Thursday decided to open the National Highway 2 (NH2) for the free movement of commuters and essential goods. Moreover, two prominent Kuki-Zo groups signed a Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Union Government to maintain territorial integrity of Manipur. The development was shared by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The move comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's likely visit to Manipur next week, first since ethnic violence broke out between the Meiteis and the Kukis in May 2023.
