New Delhi, May 19 -- The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has removed around 150 to 200 unauthorised shops and stalls from footpaths and market areas in Sarojini Nagar on Saturday, according to a local trader, The operation began late on Saturday night, around 11 pmand aimed to clear illegal structures that had taken over public spaces in the busy market.
Ashok Randhawa, president of the Sarojini Nagar Mini Traders Association, said that while many unauthorised shops were removed, some authorised shops also suffered damage during the drive.
"When we came to the market, we saw that hoardings and parts of some legal shops had been broken," he said, expressing concern over the impact on legitimate traders.
