The story of the play focuses on a woman named Rani who lives a dull and boring life with her husband Appanna. After a tantric ritual by Kurudhwa, Rani inadvertently comes into her life with the Ichhadhari Naaga (Nagappa), who gives her the opportunity to express her desires and emotions. In this form she faces a complicated relationship with her husband and her unknown lover. Through the play, Karnad raises deep questions about life, love, and identity.
