Meerut, Feb. 22 -- In a significant development, the management of a 168-year-old mosque in Meerut has begun dismantling the structure to make way for the city's Metro and Rapid Rail Corridor projects. The mosque, located outside Jagdish Mandap on Sharda Road, had been identified as an obstruction to the infrastructure expansion plans.

For the first time, Friday prayers were not held at the mosque, as its gate had already been removed and the electricity connection cut. The decision to voluntarily remove the mosque came after extensive discussions between the administration and the mosque management.
