Mumbai, Feb. 13 -- The toll in the incidence of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) -- an autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system attacks the nervous system- rose to eight in Maharashtra on Wednesday, as Mumbai recorded its first GBS death.

Of the total deaths, Pune has accounted for the maximum GBS deaths. Of the eight persons who have died so far, four have been confirmed as GBS deaths, while the remaining four are "suspected" GBS deaths.

The latest death took place at Nair Hospital in Mumbai, where the patient was undergoing treatment. The patient had a history of travelling to Pune.
