Bhopal, April 21 -- Madhya Pradesh is in the grip of an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring across the state and impacting both urban and rural areas. While the western and northern divisions-including Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Chambal-initially bore the brunt of the scorching conditions, the eastern regions are now experiencing a sharp rise in mercury levels.

On Sunday, as many as 23 cities recorded temperatures above 40degC, indicating widespread heatwave conditions. The highest temperature was reported in Sidhi, which sizzled at 44.2degC, marking the hottest spot in the state. Other eastern cities such as Tikamgarh (43.4degC), Khajuraho (43.2degC), Shivpuri (43degC), and Nowgong-Rewa (42.5degC) also witnessed extreme heat.
