Ranchi, June 19 -- The southwest monsoon covered the entire state of Jharkhand on June 18 with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall coupled with thunder strikes that are likely to continue till June 20.

At least seven persons including a mother - daughter duo are reported to have lost their lives due to lightning and heavy rains since the onset of monsoon in the State on Tuesday.

A red alert has been sounded for various districts of the State for June 18 and 19 forcing authorities to take safety measures and close schools on June 19.
