India, Sept. 1 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on August 31 in Tianjin, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

During their meeting, both leaders stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability along the border and reaffirmed that India and China should be "development partners, not rivals."

An official statement noted that Modi and Xi welcomed the "positive momentum" in ties since their previous meeting in Kazan in October 2024.
