Lucknow, May 3 -- In a strongly worded political message, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has slammed both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress for what she termed their "opportunistic politics" over the Centre's recent decision to conduct a caste-based census. She asserted that only the BSP has consistently fought for the rights and dignity of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Dalits, and other marginalised communities.

Her comments came after the Union government announced it would include caste data collection in the upcoming national census - a move welcomed by several opposition parties, including the Congress.
