Kolkata, March 13 -- Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday cited the plight of the 13 lakh Hindu Bengalis of Assam to forewarn the people of her State against stepping into the CAA "trap" of the BJP Government by applying for citizenship under the new laws.

Launching a fierce attack on the Centre for trying to introduce National Register for Citizens (NRC) in a circuitous manner, Banerjee said the Citizenship Amendment Act was legally doubtful and so it would be foolish on the part of the people to get entrapped by it.
