Mumbai, June 1 -- Maharashtra witnessed another harrowing day on the Covid-19 front on Sunday, as the pandemic claimed 89 more lives and another 2,487 people tested positive for coronavirus in various parts of the State.

With the fresh fatalities and infections, the total number of deaths mounted to 2,286 and infected cases jumped to a staggering 68,655.

With as many as 29,329 patients having been discharged, the State health authorities pegged the number of "active cases" in the State at 36,031.

Of the total deaths reported on Sunday, Mumbai accounted for 52, while there were nine deaths each in Navi Mumbai and Pune, six deaths in Malegaon, five in Thane, four in Kalyan-Dombivli and two in solapour and one each in Osmanabad and Yavatmal...
