Bhopal, June 20 -- How long can a public institution keep throwing away taxpayer money? Decades, it seems, judging by the futility of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation's ongoing anti-encroachment drive.

Every day, the BMC carries out eviction operations to clear footpaths, drains, markets and roads of unauthorised encroachments. And every day, the very same spaces are reoccupied. This cycle, predictable, costly and fruitless, has continued for years.

It is a textbook case of throwing good money after bad.
