India, Sept. 8 -- The suspension of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, following a massive landslide since August 26, has left Katra's bustling economy in disarray. Local businesses, including hotels, dharamshalas, restaurants and shops catering to pilgrims, are facing unprecedented financial strain.
The landslide had claimed 34 lives and injured 20 others.
A high-level three-member committee, headed by Additional Chief Secretary Shaleen Kabra, has been constituted to investigate the August 26 landslide and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The committee, which includes the Divisional Commissioner and Inspector General of Police, Jammu, is expected to submit its report within two weeks.
