Bhopal, May 19 -- As the battle to save trees in the state capital intensifies, a powerful and unexpected voice has emerged-its children, many of whom study Environmental Science (EVS) as a subject in school.
On Sunday, at the Ayodhya Bypass-where the National Highways Authority of India plans to axe 8,000 trees for a lane expansion-children were seen hugging trunks and tying raksha sutras to trees.
Their message, echoed by placards held by residents of all ages, was poignant: "If the trees survive, we survive." Their presence, side by side with adults, transformed the protest into more than a policy battle by highlighting the fears of future generations.
