KOCHI, April 16 -- With the Centre terming Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as a COVIDIOT because of his alleged violation of pandemic protocols and the number of new persons tested positive for Covid-19 nearing 8,300 on Thursday, the State administration tightened the rules to prevent further spreading of the disease.

Earlier in the day the Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and External Affairs said Vijayan should be addressed as COVIDIOT because of his reckless behaviour on the day of polling (April 6) and in the subsequent days when he threw to the winds all norms specified by medical experts.
