Bhopal, May 9 -- A convict serving a life sentence for the rape of a minor escaped from Hamidia Hospital on Friday morning, triggering a citywide manhunt. The prisoner, identified as Amar alias Guddu, managed to flee while under police supervision during a medical visit.

According to police officials, Amar was brought to the hospital from Bhopal Central Jail for an eye examination related to a white spot in his eyes. Around 11 a.m., while present under the watch of an escorting constable, Amar freed himself from his handcuffs and fled the premises.

Amar was convicted in a 2017 case involving the rape of a minor and had been serving a life sentence at Bhopal Central Jail for the past several years.
