Indore, June 9 -- Free travel on the Indore Metro ended Sunday as fare collection officially began, marking a new phase in the city's public transport system.

Passenger numbers were low in the morning due to the weekend lull but picked up gradually through the afternoon. Metro staff noted continued public enthusiasm despite the introduction of ticket prices.

Indore Metro services were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 31, drawing large crowds eager to experience the city's first urban rail network.
