India, May 23 -- As a counter-measure to the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam which claimed 26 lives including 25 Indians and one Nepali national, India's Cabinet Committee on Security announced on April 23, 2025, that "The Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) of 1960 between India and Pakistan will be held in abeyance with immediate effect, until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism."
