Shimla, June 2 -- In a major step towards livestock welfare and to address the growing menace of stray cattle, the Himachal Pradesh Government has enhanced the monthly fodder grant forGauvansh(stray cattle) housed inGausadans(cow shelters) from Rs 700 to Rs 1,200 per animal. The move, aimed at ensuring better care for stray cattle and reducing crop damage, underscored the State's commitment to both animal welfare and safeguarding farmer interests.

A government spokesperson, announcing the decision on Sunday, said: "This increase reflects Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's concern for both the welfare of stray cattle and the growing distress among farmers whose crops are repeatedly damaged by wandering animals."
