Bhopal, Feb. 19 -- Madhya Pradesh High Court on Tuesday approved a trial run for the disposal of Union Carbide's toxic waste in Pithampur. Three trial phases will be conducted, burning a total of 30 metric tonnes of waste. In the first phase, 135 kg per hour will be incinerated; 180 kg per hour in the second phase, and 270 kg per hour in the third.

The court directed the state government to carry out the first phase of the trial run on February 27, with the subsequent phase scheduled for March 4and March 10. The results of all three phases will be submitted to the Central Pollution Control Board, and a final report is due before the High Court on March 27.
