New Delhi, March 12 -- The new Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025 was introduced in Lok Sabha on Tuesday to strengthen and streamline the rules relating to immigration and foreigners' entry and exit. The new bill is expected to replace the current colonial era laws including the Foreigners Act, 1946, the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, the Registration of Foreigners Act, 1939, and the Immigration (Carriers' Liability) Act, 2000. The Opposition objected to the new Bill, saying there are certain provisions violating fundamental rights mentioned in Constitution like preventing entry of persons who are not in the good books of Government.
