India, Oct. 18 -- In a major boost to freight movement in the Kashmir Valley, 1,350 tonnes of industrial salt has arrived for the first time by train from KOD (Kharaghoda) station in the Ahmedabad Division, Gujarat, to ANT (Anantnag) station in Jammu and Kashmir.
Kharaghoda is a census town and a prominent salt-producing area in the Surendranagar district of Gujarat, located on the border of the Little Rann of Kutch.
The consignment will be used in chemical industry to produce caustic soda, soda ash, chlorine and hydrochloric acid.
Other industries to benefit are the soap Industry, leather industry, brick kilns, the Food Processing units, De-icing, water treatment, pharmaceuticals and dyes and agriculture.
