Bhopal, April 18 -- In a significant anti-encroachment drive on Thursday, district authorities removed a dozen shops and cleared encroachments beneath the bridge at Mubarakpur Jod on the outskirts of the state capital.

Tehsildar Narendra Parmar, who led the operation, explained that several individuals had encroached upon the area beneath the bridge. Notices had been issued earlier, but the shops were not vacated, leading to the action, which saw the administration, supported by police and the municipal corporation, clear the area using JCB machines.

The encroachments mainly consisted of tin-shed shops and restaurants operating under the bridge. To maintain order and prevent unrest, a heavy police presence was ensured at the site.
