Mumbai, May 23 -- As part of a pilot project, India Post has for the first time made an effective use of a drone in the country to deliver a postal bag from Karjat town to the popular hill station of Matheran.
Nestled at a height of 2,570 feet in Karjat taluka of Raigad district, Matheran is the smallest hill station of India.
Located 108 km away from downtown Mumbai and 120 km away from Pune, Matheran is declared by the Ministry of Environment and Forest as an eco-sensitive region and it is Asia's only automobile-free hill station.
Matheran houses a sub-post office.
Announcing the use of a drone for a first of its kind postal delivery, India Post said that the test flight of the drone was undertaken on May 16.
