New Delhi, Aug. 26 -- Metro commuters in Delhi will have to pay more for their daily rides starting Monday, as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced its first fare hike in eight years. The increase, effective August 25, 2025, ranges from Rs 1 to Rs 4 depending on the distance of travel, and up to Rs 5 on the Airport Express Line. In the financial year 2023-24, the DMRC incurred a loss before tax of Rs 1,781.69 crore.

In the following year, 2024-25, the losses are projected to be around Rs 1,598 crore, as per a Delhi Metro official. "The latest fare increase is minimal and will only provide limited relief.
