Lucknow, May 21 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has raised serious concerns over the sharp decline in student enrolment in Government schools in Uttar Pradesh and criticised the state government's ongoing crackdown on private madrasas. She termed the developments as a blow to the goal of accessible education for the underprivileged and called for an immediate shift in policy.
In a post on social media platform X, Mayawati pointed out that enrolment in primary and upper primary Government schools in UP dropped from 1.74 crore in 2023-24 to 1.52 crore in 2024-25 - a decline of approximately 22 lakh students.
